Old School Marketing Trumps Digital Marketing

March 10th, 2008 | Marketing |

We marketers have a tendency to become enamored with the buzz surrounding the latest technology craze. Sure Web 2.0 has its merits, and email marketing generates gargantuan ROI when used properly, but many times simpler, time honored gestures are those that have the most impact on your customers.

Case in point. I recently canceled membership with Employment Crossing, an online job aggregator which charges a small monthly fee for your access to their job bank. The process was simple, and no one hassled me about continuing my subscription. All in all I considered that a good experience.

A few days later I received an unexpected mailing from the company. A small envelope which piqued my interest because of the hand written address and first class postage of 0.58 cents. Obviously not your run of the mill credit card offering. Inside a card with a handwritten thank you from the person who I spoke with on the phone and a couple of mints. Talk about putting a smile on my face, now that is what I consider a wow experience.

Is your marketing wowing your customers?

What are you doing to create wow experiences for your customers?
